My belief is exercise should be fun. We don’t have to go to a gym, or lift heavy weights, or run marathons. We need to move, and we need to find enjoyment in this movement or we won’t come back to it again.

The over 55’s classes I offer include the following:

  • ACTIVE is a class that consists of basic aerobics (no complex routines), and whole body, functional movement exercises, both standing and floor based, to build on strength, balance and coordination. There is minimal chair work included in ACTIVE classes. Hand weights and resistance bands are optional but recommended. Yoga mats are compulsory. Classes run for 50 minutes.

    This class is not suitable for: Beginners or those not currently participating in regular light to moderate aerobic-based exercise, those with reduced balance/stability/mobility and those who have had recent falls or falls related injuries.

  • FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT is a class that focuses on functional movement, strength, balance and coordination exercises. There is a small amount of aerobic work included (no complex routines), combined with some chair work. Hand weights and resistance bands are optional but recommended. There is no floor work in FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT classes so there is no need for a yoga mat. Classes run for 50 minutes.

    This class is not suitable for: Acute or unstable cardiac, respiratory or musculo-skeletal conditions, uncontrolled blood pressure, poorly controlled diabetes or those with reduced balance/stability/mobility, recent falls or requiring a walking aid for mobility.

  • CHAIR BASED - This class will be ideal for a beginner or someone who is not so active and looking to start a regular exercise program. The class will consist of predominately chair based exercises focusing on strength, balance and mobility. More information to follow.

2025 SCHEDULE OVER 55’S CLASSES

TERM 2 runs Monday 28th April 2025 until Friday 4th July 2025 (inclusive).

MONDAY:

Location - Mona Vale Memorial Hall, Mona Vale.

                  Classes – 9am – Active Class (This class is currently full).

                    10am – Functional Movement class

 

TUESDAY

Location – Ted Blackwood Hall, Warriewood

          Classes – 9:30am - Functional Movement class

10:30 - Functional Movement Class 

 

THURSDAY:

Location – Newport Community Centre, Newport

Classes – 9am – Active class

(A 10am class coming soon)

Please note: if you choose to enrol in 2 or more classes there will be a discount on the 2nd + class/es.
